Project Description

Understanding how stem and niche cells establish tissues and organs during development, growth, and regeneration requires information on multiple levels, including cell and lineage relationships, molecular dialogues between cells within, and across tissues, their modes of cell division, and how of the balance between self-renewal and differentiation is regulated. Several obstacles have constrained the advancement of knowledge in this field, including access to the dynamics of stem and niche cell interactions. Most, if not all, of the properties of stem and niche cell are perturbed during pathologies, which ironically, can provide valuable insights into normal regulatory processes. Given also that muscles in the head and body are heterogeneous from embryonic stages, we aim to define the factors that are responsible for this diversity.
