Project Description
Chemical health risk assessment has failed to adequately protect women's fertility. Women, along with their oocytes, are exposed to widespread mixtures of human-made chemicals. These chemicals are correlated with accelerated reproductive aging and infertility. Only 0.5% of the chemicals on the market have been well characterized for health risks, and reproductive toxicity in women is typically not covered due to missing tools. SAFER is a project committed to developing novel in vitro tools for female reproductive toxicants. This project will first investigate the impacts of environmental pollution on stem cell-based embryo models, and then utilize this information to develop innovative in vitro assays for chemical screening and prioritization.
